Jail 1800's
The Williamson County Jail meets Illinois State Standards for county jails. State inspectors visit the jail on a regular basis and prepare a written report on both the physical structure and its overall operations.
The latest upgrades to the jail were completed in 1985. A new video monitoring system and central control unit greatly increased the security of this 104-bed facility.
Located on the top floor of the Williamson County Courthouse in Marion, the jail holds persons arrested who are awaiting a court appearance, can not make bond, awaiting trial, or already sentenced to a term not to exceed 364 days.
To properly care for those housed in the jail, a supportive staff maintains a kitchen to prepare three-meals a day, seven-days-a-week. There is a medical facility with visiting physician for routine medical problems.
For security reasons, tours of the jail are not available to the general public.
