My Grandmother

One of my aunts asked me to do this for her. She wanted me to do one weeks page all about my Grandma Jo. To be fair, I think I'll do one about my other Grandmother next week.

Grandma Jo is a nice person, and she is also a surprising one. She golfs, fishes, and sometimes sends us little newspaper clippings and other things. For example, she, just two days ago, sent me two job planning books.

She has an interesting personality. When my mother and two aunts were children, Grandma Jo missed a stop (as it was told to me) and went in reverse to get back to it. Then, someone said from the back seat, "You're not going to drive backwards all the way home are you?" Grandma Jo replied, "I wonder if I could..."

Sometimes the things that happen are not caused by her, like when, as she was going down a hill near Lake Yellowstone (coming back from a fishing trip, having hitched her boat to her truck), in heavy traffic, she saw her boat pass her on the road. The amazing part is, nothing was damaged. No cars hit her boat, when the boat went off the road it didn't get hurt, and it turned out all she needed was a pin for the hitch that had been missing.

She is also interesting to me because of a few things. She used to be a teacher for a Special Ed. class, and (as my mother tells me) would take them bowling at times. The thing my mom admits whenever she tells me this is that, because she went with them, she knew they were pretty good.

Another thing is that she is a wonderful grandmother, but not in the way of some grandmothers. She doesn't often visit us, but we visit her on vacations. Why? Well, we live in Minnesota, which sadly lacks any mountains. Grandma Jo lives in Montana, which has more than its fair share. Whenever we go to see her there, she always takes us fishing. Most times, once we get out on Lake Yellowstone, Grandma looks for her magic spot. If she thinks she found it, she drops a line in. If a fish bites right away, we found it. She also does things like send me job planning books.

The thing that I like the most about her, is how she stands up for herself. At for old golf club, women could only play in the hottest hours of the day. Because my step-grandfather is nearly blind and deaf, he has to go out with her. Some people would have just lived with it, but she didn't. She took the club to court for sexual discrimination...And won.

That's just a part of what she is like, and there is so much more about her that I can't describe in words. I hope you get to meet her some day, I know I always look forward to seeing her again.
